“ This place is a true hidden gem in Savannah. We would've never discovered it, if we didn't do the Savannah Taste tour. It's located down a back alley of some houses, and connected to a house. It's only open on Friday and Saturdays. They had a sign that said they take cash only on the door. It smelled amazing. We only got to taste the pulled pork and ribs, but I definitely want to come back and try a full meal. ”
“ Theresa Walls makes this place special with great bbq. Making bbq for two generations in This small 4 table diner. Go down the dirt lane to find it. ”
“ A very hard to find gem. Located in one of Savannah's many alleys, GPS kept taking us around the block. It was well worth the search. Good, basic BBQ with homemade lemonade ”
“ Stopped in briefly while on a "food tour". What an incredibly friendly team here. Shared half of their pork sandwich and it amazing. They have 2 homemade sauces - both great but go for the "hot" option. It's so well mixed it's really not hot all all; very well balanced and the more flavorful of the two. Add to the fact they are located in an alley - and the "local" flair is phenomenal. ”
“ First, you find the alley. Then, you show up on Friday or Saturday. Any other day of the week? Try again. Next, peruse that long menu...and find out that all that's left is ribs. Sigh. Then, ponder the list of sides...and then find out they're mostly sold out, too. None of this is a complaint, just a litany of how our visit played out. The banter between the couple behind the counter was worth the price, period. We had a hard time communicating about the order -because I'm used to ribs as "half rack", "full rack", but they weigh it out and sell it by the pound. They also hack the ribs *across* the bone. Nothing like the sound of that cleaver- CHOP! CHOP! But kinda weird based on my conception of ribs. They very sweetly found some mac cheese hiding in the back of the fridge after we'd picked our sides. The cook said "I don't take food off of no one's plate, so I'm just gonna give you that". Sold! ”
“ NOT CLOSED - JUST HARD TO FIND!!!! York Lane, not York Rd. This is basically the alley behind 515 E. York Rd. They're only open Fri & Sat; 11-3 and 5-9 both days (sign says more hours coming soon). Now the review... Great food, great people. This is real home cooking folks, not just "tastes like". You walk in this little hole in the wall, and the food? OMG. I got the rib dinner ($12 with 2 sides), she got the 4-side combo. Between us we got collard greens, mac & cheese, Cole slaw, peas, and okra & tomatoes. I've had really, unusually great ribs twice before, now it's three times. Fall-off-the-bone, great flavor, and a perfect portion size that didn't leave me sick from overeating. They had 2 home-made sauces that were ideal compliments (one with more kick than the other). The real highlight of the meal though were the sides. Holy cow! Back in the early 90's I had a friend in the Atlanta PD, who took me to this little soul food place, where I felt like I could've been the first white guy to go in; by far the best collards and okra of my life...until today. You MUST go here just for those. Wow. Just...wow. At any other meal I'd be raving about how great and fresh the cole slaw was, and the peas too! I feel badly for the slaw and peas, they were so delicious and still not the main event. Okra is easy to screw up (I've tried myself), I think a lot of people have never had it done right - this is your chance, don't miss it. ”
“ For those who love those secret-gem-hole-in-the-wall type places, you've gotta stop by here, especially if you're a BBQ fan! This was one of the stops on our food tour and I figured since I'm pescatarian there wouldn't be much I would be able to eat here. Their menu shows that they offer fish and deviled crab, but I was given potato salad to sample and it was really good - perfect amount of mayo without being too much and potatoes were perfect texture. They have enough side dishes (candies yams, cole slaw, Mac n cheese, okra and tomato) that a vegetarian can make up a decent meal choosing just sides. Everyone else in the group received the pulled pork sandwich and based on all the "Mmmm's" and "Wows" I think everyone really liked it! My husband said it was the BEST pork BBQ he's had and that was pretty much what everyone else said too. The sweet tea... if you like a good southern sweet tea, order it here! Sugary sweet and exactly how southerners like it. If I order iced tea I usually opt for a half and half (half sweet, half unsweet) but this was a yummy treat! There aren't a lot of tables inside (maybe 6 or 7?) but a lot of people order take out. We would definitely stop by here again when in Savannah! ”
“ We had a rib dinner and pulled pork dinner it was very good our waiter was friendly and said everything is good and made daily and he was right we all enjoyed our meals and then had dessert the rum cake was delicious and my husbands cake was pound cake with fresh berries and whip cream I loved it ... Must try if we lived here we would be regulars. ”
